We understand that moving into a new environment can be very stressful and we have proactively sought to minimise any potential concerns that young people, their parent’s / carer’s and social workers may have.
Our House Teams work hard to establish and maintain robust links within the local community to ensure that moving into one of Horizons House’s is a smooth and seamless process.
Each House has created links with local healthcare services such as G.P, Dentist and Optician. We are also able to access specialist resources where necessary such as our local CAMHS Team, Smoking Cessation and Sexual Health Clinics. If a young person residing in one of our House’s requires to access any healthcare service, we will provide support and encouragement as necessary.
Each House has established links with nearby Primary and Secondary Schools as well as specialist Education Providers within the Local Authority that may be suitable for young people with identified learning needs. If a young person is unable to attend their former Education provision, we will provide opportunity, support and encouragement in transitioning to a more local provision. Additionally, some of our young people receive home-based tuition, arranged through their Local Authority which we will happily facilitate.
Leisure time is extremely important to our young people and we strive to support individuals to have an active and enjoyable lifestyle. Our young people regularly take part in organised outings to 10-Pin Bowling, the Cinema, Ice-Skating and local Restaurants. Each House has developed community links with local Libraries, Swimming Pools, Gyms, Dance Groups, Sports Clubs eg. Boxing and Karate and local youth clubs or organised groups.
Each House strives to be mindful of respect towards its neighbours. Our young people have the right to be treated fairly and with respect, as do the people who live near each House. We encourage our young people to be responsible citizens but we do appreciate that these skills have to be learned at a pace appropriate with each young person’s age and stage of development. We foster positive channels of communication and encourage our neighbours to discuss any issues with us directly in order to support a harmonious partnership.
We maintain positive links with our local emergency services such as Police and Fire Rescue.
Each House is currently working on building links with local companies to provide our older young people with valuable work experience and volunteering opportunities.
Horizons have successfully developed service provision to a sustained high standard. This can be evidenced within our Care Inspectorate Reports.
The continued commitment, enthusiasm and professionalism from our House Teams have led to many successful outcomes for our young people and their families both past and present.
Our thanks and recognition go to the professionals that we are currently engaged with and those that we’ve had the opportunity to work with since opening. We have and will continue to strive to ensure that our service provision exceeds their expectations and remains dynamic to meet the needs of the young people we care for.
